Home Care is to hire a caregiver to come to your Kupuna’s home and provide services that range from light to complete assistance with activities of daily living, help with meal preparation, outings, and possibly even some light housework. Home care is not the same as Home Health, which is a medical service provided at home, although some Home Care agencies provide medication management.
Most people prefer the comfort and flexibility of their own homes, and home care is an excellent arrangement for someone who wishes to maintain his or her independence at home. The downside to home care is that your Kupuna may feel uncomfortable with an unfamiliar person entering his or her personal space, and it can be extremely expensive to hire care at home for 24 hours a day. There are also unexpected downsides to home care, such as a lack of stimulation that can lead to you Kupuna’s decline in health, and the familiar environment can greatly mask the impact of someone who suffers from dementia (thereby making a future transition out of home more difficult).
If your Kupuna needs 24/7 care, consider an Adult Residential Care Home.
